Defiance County Humane Society
Our Featured Pet...
Please check out our list of wonderful, ready to adopt, cats, dogs, puppies and kittens! They are all worth being featured!
We Recycle!
You can help us raise money simply by bringing us your used inkjet or laserjet printer cartridges and cell phones! For each used printer cartridge or cell phone, we receive points from Funding Factory - which we then can turn into dollars to help support the care of all the dogs and cats at the Defiance County Humane Society. This is a simple and very successful way to help us raise much needed funds for food and medical care for our pets!
What's the very best thing you can do for your pet? Have them spayed or neutered! It helps more than you can ever imagine!
As you look through our adoptable animals, you will notice that more and more of them will have a "NOTE" that says that they've been altered through the help of the Humane Society's spay/neuter project.
A huge thank you to all who have helped make this idea a reality!
Adopt one, until there are none.
Who We Are
The Defiance County Humane Society is a not-for-profit animal shelter, taking in pets from Northwest Ohio. We do our best to find homes for as many as possible. All adopted animals are spayed or neutered through a special program called "Teto's Fund." Also, all cats are tested for feline leukemia and all dogs are tested for heartworm.
"Duke's Fund" was established to help animals who come to us abused, neglected and injured.
If you would like to contribute to these funds, please call Linda at 419-393-4270.
Adopting a friend
We will be doing our best to keep our "Adoptable List" up to date. All our pets on the adoptable list are available to good homes, preferably indoors. They are ALL required to be spayed or neutered if not done already. No exceptions. If you are looking for an animal to breed, please look elsewhere, or better yet, evaluate WHY you are breeding when hundreds of animals in your own community die from neglect every single year.
If you need information on a specific pet, please PHONE the shelter at 419-658-2298. Also, if you live out of NW Ohio and would like to adopt, please realize that you will be responsible for your own transportation arrangements. We are happy to adopt out of our area to approved homes, but do not have the staff or volunteer base to provide transports.
DID YOU KNOW?
The Defiance County Humane Society took in 2,500 animals last year?
A pet is for life, not just for when it's cute or convenient.

Volunteers Wanted!
Would you like to volunteer your time, skills and abilities to help the homeless pets in NW Ohio, but don't know where to start? We always have projects - big and little - that we could use YOUR help with. We are always in need of volunteers for our annual Strut Your Mutt event in September, as well as volunteers for other activities and events such as the Golf Outing, Monte Carlo night and more. If you would like to help without having to do the actual fundraising, event workers are needed. Please help the homeles animals of NW Ohio! Our 3rd Annual Strut Your Mutt will be held September 9, 2006. It will begin at the Defiance Public Library with a Blessing of the Pets and journeys across the river to Pontiac Park. Registration begins at 10 a.m., the walk kicks off at 10:30 a.m., and you can walk any time up until 2 p.m. Walkers will enjoy readings by Pet Communicator Bryan Flournoy, caricatures by Bayer Graphics, contests for pets, a DCHS alumni parade, a Beauty PAWgent, photos by Kelly Smith Masterson, microchipping, vendors for shopping, food from Charlie's Down Under and more! Questions? Call Linda Cerda at 419-393-4270.
